Fedora :: Can't Connect Acer Iconia Tab (Android) To F15 Powered PC?
Aug 29, 2011
Recently I got an Acer Iconia Tab A500, the Android "Honeycomb" version, and have been consistently unsuccessful with F15 recognizing the device using the microUSB port. That same method allows a Windows-powered PC to "see" the device as an external drive, but Fedora only realizes there is "something attached" (likewise, the Tablet recognizes it is plugged to something).
Is there any method to make Fedora 15 use the Acer Iconia Tab as an external drive? Is this problem Android or Iconia specific?

I have the weirdest problem on the newly (freshly) installed Natty on my Acer Aspire 5741G: Wifi connectivity is good out-of-the-box and can connect (at least with my office's network) but cannot connect with my phone's (HTC Legend with Froyo) configured as a portable hotspot.
The network can be detected, but fails to connect. I have tried with WPA, without any security.... it all does not work.Previously Lucid 10.4 connected flawlessly out-of-the-box on the same machine.Other devices detect and connect to the phone without problems.

I'm trying to get my android 2.3 phone to connect to my vpn server and I followed this guide [URL]... but it isn't working. I've tried compiling both xl2tpd and openswan myself but it resulted with the same error I can connect to my vpn from windows 7 but when I try to connect with my phone I get this in the log file (jumped to the interesting part & highlighted the line that's bothering me most)

I have just bought a HTC Desire Z mobile phone, running Android 2.2.
It has a feature to allow, via the USB cable, use of the Internet connection on a PC so that the phone can connect via that, rather than use the 3G or wi fi when those are not available or not wanting to use them. I want to download lots of applications without draining my 3G data allowance.
I have searched via Google, and some people have said that it just worked for them. They plugged in the phone to their Ubuntu PC and they could use the Internet on the phone.
But I cannot get it to work. I am new to Android, and still figuring out the phone. In the Settings/Wireless & Networks, there is an option for Internet Pass-through, which is trying to connect but never does. Then it comes up with a message saying:
"Unable to connect to PC" and asks me to install HTC Sync software (which is Windows only).
Is there something I need to install in Ubuntu to get it to work?

I haven't had a problem with this yet, but today I was online via my wifi connection and then the network center said there was no connection. My modem said I had full bars, and I tried restarting both the modem and the laptop, but nothing. The internet works if I plug in the ethernet cable, but will not pick up the wifi signal. I called my service provider and for 2 hours they couldn't figure out how to connect it because it has Linux. They tried to set up a new password protected network because they said the modem was working fine, so they had me delete the old network from the computer... but when I tried to set up a new network it still was not picking up a wireless signal. Ive tried flicking the switch on the front of the laptop and it still will not pick up a signal. Please help me out with this... I have no clue how to use Linux!

For some reason, Ubuntu will not connect to a wireless network. It will occasionally connect, but I will open a page and it will not load. Soon after it would disconnect.

I usually used freebsd. Now I decided to try linux and selected CentOS 5.5. I installed it on my notebook Acer Aspire 5930G (I tried both i386 and x86_64 versions) and I have problems with cable networking. I selected static network configuration during install. Internet access is working via NAT on freebsd server.
I can ping anything in my LAN, I can ping any host in internet, nslookup works fine, but nothing else isn't working. I can't wget even in my LAN, can't connect to FTP server in my LAN etc. The same with internet hosts. Iptables turned off, iptables -l shows that all chains are in ACCEPT. SElinux turned off. NAT for accessing internet works fine - when I reboot to windows 7 with same network config internet is working. I guess this could be problem with driver for my NIC - Marvell Yukon 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet. But I can't change it on notebook :)

My landlord upstairs just got a new modem and WiFi by Clear.com and when trying to get the WiFi to work...it just wouldn't connect with my laptop. They have 2 computers upstairs, one laptop and one desktop that recognized the WiFi and don't have any trouble using it. Wondering if there is something I have accidently clicked or changed to make it not connect. It does not have an error message, it just does not connect completely.

i just bought a new computer today and Ubuntu 11.04 reboots whenever i try to shut it down. Most of the time it just hangs there. I've tried to ALT+CTRL+F2 and shut down with the terminal there by "sudo poweroff" but the system freezes and hangs at that screen, not allowing me to see what's going on. If i leave it for 5 minutes or so in that state, it'll reboot. I've also tried Lubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu and they all have the same issue. I've tried their latest versions.
I've searched endlessly, i've messed with the BIOS settings and nothing. I've added "acpi=off" and "acpi=forced" and neither worked. The only way i can shut down my computer is by holding the physical power button. The computer is an HP P6710F. AMD Athlon II 640 x4 processor. ATI Radeon HD 4200 graphics card. 4GB of memory. 1TB of HDD space.

The server stood there for a good time until i manually rebooted it.I used the command halt via putty, and i was configuring shorewall, so i only wrote some scripts and ran some shorewall restart's

Yes, I was all excited when I plugged in an old dusty PC and found it still alive with a 32 gig hard drive & 260 Megs of RAM with an open slot for more memory, fit for my first Linux system. Then I navigated to device manager and found it was powered by a celeron, which was kind of a bummer.Anyway, can I get by with this setup? I'd like to use the slackware distribution, and my main purpose is to learn to administer a LAN, starting w/ 2 local clients, & a server that also runs Apache.

I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.

I've been getting a message on my monitor where "Input not supported" is floating around. This only happens when I manually turn the monitor off and then later turn it back on. Leaving the monitor on and allowing it to go to the screen saver doesn't seem to cause the issue (but I prefer to turn the monitor off if I'm going to be away from the computer for any length of time).
Specs:
Acer X203w monitor
Radeon 9600 Pro Video card
Linux Mint 8 (Helena)
Resolution 1680 x 1050 (16:10 - Preferred native resolution for the monitor)
Refresh Rate 60hz
[Code]...
I just had it happen again. I tried unplugging the DVI cable from the back of the computer and then plugging it back in. The monitor then displayed the desktop properly. I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not in what I may need to change settings-wise.

I have 3X 5.25 SATA removable bays with hard drives in it. I am working on a new script to manually backup some very important data to those drives. Basically, to eliminate risks of burning the HDD's, or accidentally (either by me or my scripts) destroy data, I normally keep those drives offline, i.e. unpowered. The enclosures are Vantec EZ swap and require a key to turn them on/off. Once it is turned on, Slackware see them without a glitch. My script will basically display a message to warn that the backup is about to happen, then once the user click the OK button, mount the partition to a local folder and then backup the data. The partition will then be unmounted and a new message will be displayed to ask the user to "unplug" the HDD. Cron will take care of the schedule.
Basically, in pseudo code:
Code:
1-Verify if sdd is connected (powered)... If so, procee to #2, else display message box "The HDD is not connected"
2-Mount the partition sdd5 to the local folder
3-Backup
4-Unmount the partition from the local folder
5-Display a message box "The backup was completed with success. You can now disconnect the HDD"
how can I automate the detection of the hdd? I would like the script to poll or probe the HDD to see if it was properly turned on, and if so, proceed with the rest... I tried all kind of stuff but no luck... For example, fdisk -l will list the drive & its partitions if it is connected (powered) and wont if the drive is not connected. I cant use the output of fdisk to efficiently accomplish what I am trying to do...
I want the script to display the messages boxes (Please plug the HDD & You can now unplug the HDD) to a different display (i.e. my laptop). The reason is because the script will run on my server that has no monitor...

I believe I have forwarded my port 22 correctly on my Belkin N+ router. I believe I have also set this computer to a static IP through the router. Is there a way to check or set up static IP and port fowarding on Fedora itself or is that all done on the router? I ask because when I use ConnectBot's ssh app on my android and connect from within the LAN to the computer 192.168.2.9:22 it says Connection lost, no route to host.

I was trying to install the android sdk so I can write some apps and play around on a new droid phone i hope to get tomorrow. I had 64bit FC11 installed but the android stuff is only 32bit. I needed to install a bunch of the 32bit libs to get this to work. I installed FC11 64 bit. This cuased problems because the android stuff is 32bit. I couldn't get it to launch so I had to install the 32 bit libraries as well. A lot of the libraries could be removed but I think they will be helpful and useful in other stuff as well.
After installing these just follow the normal android install. I had another problem with the android install because the Ganymede Update Site was not checked so it wouldn't download the updates for the eclipse software. In the Software Updates and Addons window click Manage Sites, check Ganymede Update Site. Here is the link if you have to add it.[URL]..# instruction to get 32 bit android stuff in 64 bit FC11 Add an "rpm" Macro. You'll need this later or it will be hard to tell your rpm versions apart.
Add the following line to the "/etc/rpm/macros" file:
%_query_all_fmt %%{name}-%%{version}-%%{release}.%%{arch}
Code:
[stoggy@localhost][~]
[10:13 AM]$: echo "%_query_all_fmt %%{name}-%%{version}-%%{release}.%%{arch}" | sudo tee -a /etc/rpm/macros
%_query_all_fmt %%{name}-%%{version}-%%{release}.%%{arch}

I Also visited [url] & found as below-
ScanJet 3770 Unsupported. While an external binary-only backend exists, it works only on Linux i386. Therefore the scanner is unsupported on other platforms.

I'm fairly new to Fedora (only been using it for about a month) and I'm installing the Android plugin for Eclipse so I can do some development. I am following the directions at the android website and it says to put the path of my downloaded SDK into the system PATH variable. I know how to do this on windows but I have never done it in fedora.

im trying to use this guide to connect my android phone to my fedora laptop via ssh and vnc, but the connectbot ssh connection is timed out

however, this guide assumes a running ssh and vnc server, which isn't trivial to me, i think i have established these, but i don't know how to test it
also i am not shure if my router and firewall configuration is correct, i disabled wan blocking but didn't enable remote config management on my rooter, is that correct?
