I am sure I am not the only one that would like to have this feature. This feature was in the old software packages. Is there anyway to add to the clock programs not only the 12 hour feature also a 24 hour feature as an option. I am kinda old fashion person and like the 24 hour readout versus the 12 of either AM or PM.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from Lucid to Maverick my Clock applet is acting up. When I click it there is a delay of about 1 minute 16 seconds before it responds. The time display does not change while this delay is taking place. I had several locations setup and I figured it may be causing the issue so I removed the Clock applet from the panel and then re-added it. Even with default settings and no extra locations defined it still has the delay but only when clicked. If I leave it alone it chugs along with the current time. I have applied all updates and restarted. I have killed all the gnome panels and let them reload but nothing seems to effect this behavior.
All of my other gnome panel applets are working fine.Does this ring any bells? Is anyone else having similar issues?
I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done
Just curious as to if it is possible to have the clock in the center of the task bar centered clock in Ubuntu 11.04?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had cloned a centos 5.6 installation from virtualbox virtual machine to physical box. Everything work fine. However, the time showing in os using date command differs from bios time by roughly 4 hours. I am running ntp services which sync the time with another centos server on the network. It appears that some services are using virtual clock and some use physical clock. How do I get rid of virtual clock and only use physical clock?

All went well except I lost several previously installed apps, including my calendar program and a favorite game (and I don't know what else yet).I reinstalled the calendar, but have not been able to get the game back. The name of the game was something like "gnomemetris," or something similar. It consisted of a matrix of colored balls. The object is to click on groups of balls to remove them and accumulate a high score.
That game was a favorite and I'd like to get it back. I've searched Applications/Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic Package Manager but can't find any program like that. My guess is that the game is no longer included in the repositories that Lucid looks at.If anyone can give some advice on how to get that game back, or info on what happens to older software during an upgrade.
I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and also two dual boot desktop machines, both running Windows XP and Ubuntu. I have upgraded one of the desktops to Ubuntu 10.04 and since doing so Thunderbird will not run on the laptop or the desktop. On clicking the launcher there are signs of activity for a few seconds and then they stop and Thunderbird fails to open. Also there is no longer any sound on the desktop that I have upgraded. I am reluctant now to upgrade the remaining desktop in case I have the same problems
how to get Thunderbird running again, please. I have already spent a week unsuccessfully trying to get the sound working and have abandoned it, but I would like Thunderbird to start running again.
If I want to upgrade to the next version, how to do it keeping my present set up of programs & settings intact (including Compiz), so that I need not install Individually all over again?

On ubuntu 10.4, I upgraded my laptop from a fluky Broadcom 4322 wireless card to a yummy Intel 5300. The system recognized the card as far as lspci and lshw were concerned, but it was disabled. I used "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" to get it active, removed wicd and installed nmanager, and I could access the internet via web browser and mail.
The issue is that other programs (kismet, wireshark, zenmap, anything that I use at my job) do not recognize the new wlan0 interface at all. I've uninstalled completely from synaptic then reinstalled things like wireshark, but under interfaces I get nothing, not even eth0. Nothing looks askew in syslog or the relevant lshw/lspci searches. Does anyone have an idea on this? The Intel 5300 is rolling along without a hiccup so I doubt the issue is there
I switched a while ago from Gnucash to Homebank. The current version of Homebank is 4.04, but there is a new 4.1 Beta which provides several very welcomed new features. Since there appears it will take some time for the official Fedora repo to provide version 4.1 (I checked Koji already), I was wondering if anybody around here already made an rpm that would kindly share. I even tried the tar package provided by Homebank's website but wasn't successful installing it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen installing I perhaps mistakingly told Fedora it should use the BIOS clock and now it shows the wrong time, 1 hour ahead of my time-zone GMT+0. If I try and go to the preferences and set the time the 'Advanced Options' one of which I need are grayed out, I need the 'Use local time source' option to be unchecked. Could somebody tell me a workaround or the command-line commands to tell it not to do this anymore?

I've been running a fedora server for over a year now, and has seen some very strange issue, that really make it uncomfortable to use, and that I cannot manage to solve easily.
The problem is as follow : sometimes (every 20-30 minutes or so : this time is quite random), the server completely hangs.
I'm using it mainly remotely, through ssh and nfs. What I see when it "hangs" is the following:
-no ping response
-nfs stalled
-ssh sessions hangs (for example, if I run a "top" command", it just isn't updated anymore
-disk activity led stays completely off (in normal activity, it is almost always blinking, even due to "internal" server activities, so network disconnection doesn't explain that either)
The most strange thing is that, to resume it, I basically have 3 options : wait (sometimes few tens of seconds, usually between 2 and 4 minutes!), just hit a key on the keyboard!, or do something like un/plugging any king of usb peripheral (which makes me think of some interruption mechanism that is stalled).
When it "wakes up", I see my "top" session over ssh suddenly being quickly updated hundreds of times (for all it has not received during the "pause"), ping says that the packets have actually all been received (with long times, for example, packet 1 : 80xxxms, packet 2 : 79xxxms, packet 3 : 78xxxms..... packet 79 : 1xxxms, packet 80 : 0.xxxms), the disk is quite overloaded for a few seconds, and everything is back at normal!
Furthermore, I think this i related, but my clock drifts for few hours per day (3 holding minutes every 20-30 minutes makes me think there is some relation!)
I tried to set up ntpd to compensate it, but sometimes the suspensions are just too long, and I ended up with

I said in the title "F13-F14", because I already had the problem with F13, but after some time it disappeared (I may have changed some configuration, I have to admit...). I still have a backup of the "/etc" tree of that "working" F13.
The hardware for F13[working] and F14[not_working] is the same : Phenom II X4 on an ASUS M3N78 PRO, data on raid 10, system on separated SATA disk, 8Gb RAM, some qemu vms running (between 4 and 6).
