I've search the web, but didn't find anything specific to what I'm trying to do. Is it possible to batch print all files in a directory from the CLI? I'm sure it is, I just haven't found the right package. It can be done with OpenOffice, but the files are all PDFs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNot sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed.The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

Only the Postscript option is available, PDF is not available.

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
Just installed drivers for Lexmark pro200 - S500 series. However although it is recognised by the system and has a tick by its name, And tells me it is connected via usb file goes to print que but will not print. Also tells me it is Printing - localhost! is this correct?.

As far as I see this has nothing to do with CUPS.As far as I see the first error message comes from Ghostscript: "Unable to open the initial device, quitting" (this is in Ghostscript's gs_init.ps file).Therefore Ghostscript does not produce any output which lets then the filter from HP's HPLIP driver software error out with "cupsRasterOpen failed" and finally the HP backend errors out with "ERROR: null print job".Neither Ghostscript nor HP's HPLIP driver software belong to CUPS so that the issue does not belong to CUPS (according to my analysis).
I guess that somehow the "Ghostscript command line" is not correct or does not work as it should.Usually this is alos no bug in Ghostscript but "some where else" where the Ghostscript command line with all its parameters is created.
Accidentally noticed that I am NOT able to print pdf files in Okular (Version 0.9.4, KDE 4.3.4). Clicked print and nothing happens, no error message.The same file CAN be printed using evince on the same system. I've created the pdf file using soffice so permissions is not a problem.However, the same file CAN be printed in openSUSE's Okular.If someone can confirm that I am right/wrong, then I can decide whether to file a bug report?

I'm not sure if I've ever printed in Lenny (recently upgraded from Etch). It worked fine in Etch. I "added" the printer again in KDE Print and it spat out a test page, but it does absolutely nothing if I send the document to print.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have tried to download the latest version of CUPS but do not know how to install it properly using command line commands above 'sudo' and 'sh', and I have tried to install HPLIP but it needs 'cups-devel' installed apparently. My Debian can see the 1020 clearly enough to identify it and give its status as idle, via the CUPS interface. When I try and print a Test page it goes to the spooler, says it is printing OK, but nothing prints. The job then disappears and appears on CUPS as completed. In the old days we would have sent a eof() to make the printer work. Have I got a bug in my HP Laserjet 1020 driver? Or am I missing the great plug-in that is not on the Synaptic Package Manager The SPM says I have HPLIP installed.

The problem is that now i have to press enter. For example in GDM if i enter my username i should swipe my finger and it should let me log in. Now after i swipe my finger nothing happenes unless i press enter.The problem may be related to the update of xorg. I am currently attempting to attach my printer to my fresh Debian installation and get CUPS running with it. I was able to add the printer easily enough, but when I try and print a test page from the web interface, it fails, and I see the following in the log.

I just bought the HP Officejet Pro 8610. I got it all hooked up and tried to print a test page. All I got was page after page of nothing. I am running Debian Weezy on an AMD chip. I had an older HP all in one that worked but the print heads failed. How do I get the 8610 to print.

When i VNC'd in, I noticed that print jobs would show up in the queue as "Processing" briefly, then disappear.

I've even reinstalled the OS (not just for this reason) to no avail. Printer is dete cted without issue, I just can't use it.
I run Debian Squeeze but I have the system installed step by step from minimal installation. So I'm not sure if I have forgotten basic packages important for printing. I open system-config-printer to add a new network printer. In the list of the Network Printers after some seconds it appears the HP Color LaserJet 2600n. I chose it and hit Forward. A new window opens that says that system is searching for Drivers and finally I'm ready for printing.

I am trying to set up a print server here on a Squeeze system using the stock debian CUPS package. It seems that since Apple has bought this package, it has caused me nothing but grief. I have set up two different USB printers with raw print queues, and every time I send a print job to either of them, the job disappears into thin air, with no error output. In fact, when I look at the queue, it says the job was completed successfully. I look at the logs, and there is no output indicating any issues. Just for kicks, I reconfigured one of the printers to use a linux driver, and it printed just fine (a little slow, but fine). I set it back to raw, and the jobs disappear again into oblivion.
I have done this many times in the past, and never had any issues -- I even had this very same printer set up that way about a year ago, and it worked great. The only noteworthy thing that seems to have changed is that there are no longer any files called "mime.types" and "mime.convs". It seems they have been replaced by "raw.types" and "raw.convs". The contents of these two files are as follows:
raw.types: application/octet-stream

Something command line that can parse and output an m3u file correctly. For example, not cdlabelgen.
All I want is a simple list of songs to print out to include with any audio cds I burn to use as a label in a slim case. No fancy labels with graphics and this or that. Brasero has a cover editor but the formatting is all screwed up and playing with text to get it to print correctly is a drag.
It would be cool if there were a script, too. Something that uses mp3cd. So a fella could fire-up his termianl-fu and run $ ./handiness.sh which would:
burn an audio disc from the playlist (which mp3cd does, of course)print out a nicely formatted list of the tracks sized correctly for a slim cd case cover.
That would be cool.
