Feb 11, 2010I set up a Debian box with Apache and everything works fine, but when trying to access files in a subdirectory, I get a 403 error. The error log shows the following:

(13)Permission denied: /var/www/site/images/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable
I tried adding a <Directory> entry in the conf file for the site and even tried adding (with +r for all) an .htaccess file (.htaccess is not specified in the conf file and the root directory doesn't have one either), but nothing works.

Debian :: Apache CGI - Internal Server Error
Sep 30, 2015I installed debian 7 and apache 2.2 with virtualhosts. I'd like to run CGI, but always get internal server error. i tested it with a simple test.cgi file.I got this in apache error log.Wed Sep 30 21:39:02 2015] [error] [client 192.168.0.156] Premature end of script headers: test.cgi
When is switch off "Addhandler cgi-script .cgi" in the config file i see the code. Permissions are 755 on the whole directory. I have checked a2enmod, the modul is loaded (sudo a2enmod cgi)..here are the part of config files :

Debian :: Redirect Apache To Remote Machine Www Content On IIS Server?
Mar 25, 2011I am trying to show library content (asp files, IIS server, MySQL database on Windows Server 2003 - Inetpub/wwwroot/library - 192.168.0.3) publicly. But Apache webserver is on Linux machine. In one of previos topics I was adviced to mount this remote machine webfolder into Linux /var/www. Well this way it want work. I was adviced it can be done through redirecting.

Jan 29, 2011My Apache web server (respectively a child process) is crashing several times a day. I wanted to find the exact reason and activated the core dumps but even though the crashing-issues continue, the core dumps were never created. I have found several howto's which basically point to the same steps:
- set "ulimit -c unlimited"
- add "CoreDumpDirectory" directive into apache2.conf (Debian's httpd.conf)
Another info I've found is that /proc/sys/fs/suid_dumpable shouldn't be 0 - so on one howto it said to echo 2 into it, on another one to echo 1 to /proc/sys/fs/suid_dumpable - didn't work with neither of them.

Oct 30, 2015How to best manage both http and https pages on the same apache-server without conflicts. For example, if i have both 000-default.conf and 000-default-ssl.conf pointing to mydomain.com, and don't want users who visit mydomain.com without specifically type the https-prefix to be redirected to the https-page - how to handle users using browserplugins such as https-everywhere etc?
Another option would be to create a subdomain ssl.mudomain.com and have users who want to reach the ssl site to have to type ssl. I have tested several things with https everywhere enabled in my own browser, and it seems really hard to make this working the way i want, in one way or another i always end up getting redirected to the ssl-site automatically.
The reason i need this to work is because i run one site that i don't care much about SSL, that is the "official" part of that site, and i also host some things for friends and family on the SSL-part. This would not have been a problem if it wasn't that i use self-signed certificates for my ssl-site and the major user become afraid when a certificate-warning pops up in their browser and therefor leave the site.

Jan 24, 2010I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.
However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

CentOS 5 :: Apache Error 403 - "Forbidden You Don't Have Permission To Access /bb/ On This Server" - 5.2 With Apache 2.2.3
Jan 20, 2011I am installing Big Brother on a CentOS 5.2 running the default Apache 2.2.3. When I try to access any web page I get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /bb/ on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at fmsubbnix Port 80 So far I have:
1) Set the Directory options to FollowSymLinks
2) Verified all directory and file permissions are at 755
3) Set permissions temporarily to 777 and received same error so I am assuming the issue is in a config file somewhere
4) in hhtpd.conf verified <Files ~ "^.ht"> is correct
5) verified the "default" directory is correct (/var/www/html)
I have read and tried several ideas in posts listed on the web but to no avail and am at a loss as to what to look for next..
Fedora :: No Output From Cron Jobs In /etc/cron.daily
Jan 29, 2011I have added some executable scripts to /etc/cron.daily but don't get the stdout/stderr output from them as mail (or anywhere else I have found). At least one of them is running (because I can see that it has added a file to the disk).
The peculiar thing is that I do get the output from /etc/cron.daily/0logwatch (part of the logwatch package) as an email each day.
The MAILTO line in /etc/crontab is "MAILTO=root" (unchanged from default). Same for /etc/anacrontab.
I do have an alias at the end of /etc/aliases which redirects root's mail to my own account, but this alias works fine for mail I send manually. (It also appears to work fine for the output from the file /etc/cron.daily/0logwatch.)
Ubuntu Installation :: Cron's /etc/cron.daily/apt Not Upgrading?

Sep 19, 2010I put in my cron entries to run my backup script which rsyncs my data to my 2nd drive, however on a hunch I checked my backup drive which mounts automatically via fstab and I realize it had not ran in a while. I checked cron and there were no entries for it. I got to wondering if I should ever be worried about a cron update coming down and over-writing my existing cron file with the backup entries in it to run.

I can see in /var/log/cron that it is running every 15 minutes but it has no effect. It is not doing the commands in the bash script.
If I run /usr/bin/phplist.sh right in the shell it works great.

The site loads slow and clicking a link almost freezes the page for a second. Also, the page loads could be much faster. We've been running mysqltuner and have pretty much optimized all slow queries. Is there anything we can do to fine tune the server for faster and more responsive?

Server :: Cron Is Not Running ?
Jan 31, 2010I want to make a cron job for my webserver, only it seems not to work...
I have now the followig to test (every 16th minute of the hour, write test to a file), but it doesn't show up. When I write out the cron, it is done to the file: /tmp/crontab.QXsBIO/crontab . How to make cron work? It must be very easy, but I have real troubles getting it fired up.
My Linux version is debian lenny and the cron file looks like (crontab -e):

Jun 1, 2011I have a cron job to run every 15 minutes. The cron job is running per /var/log/cron. It lists the job every 15 minutes.

I do not see any errors. I also looked in /var/log/messages for any errors and it does not list any. I added a line to the script that is running to send an email to me to see if it is running or not. When I run the script from the command line, the script runs without error and I get an email. I have searched and can not find what it going on. Is there some where else errors might be? Could there be a permission issue? The cron job is not being added by the root user.

Mar 21, 2010I have a crontab related question which I am hoping someone can answer. I recently took over a Redhat Enterprise 5 Server, and I was told by the previous Server Admin that there is a cron job that does the backups. I ran the following command to get a list of all users:

cat /etc/passwd | grep "/home" |cut -d: -f1
I then ran the following command for each of those users to see if they have any crontabs associated with them:

It doesn't show any crontab entries for any users (including root). But I am positive that there is a scheduled job somewhere because the backups are still running every night.

Sep 2, 2010My question is how do I get a cron job to pick up the user's ~/.my.cnf? If the user runs the shell script, everything is fine. The cron entry has the same user run the job, and I've tried #!/bin/bash -l in the shell script with no success.
Here are the details:
I have a bash shell script that launches a Python program. The python program issues an external shell mysql -e command.
I don't want the python code to use use -u user-name -pMyPassword, db-name, because this is contained in ~/.my.cnf. The python code doesn't have to use these parameters if run interactively, but does have to if run from cron.
