General :: Installing Ubuntu With Realtek Network Driver Rtl8168?

Jan 25, 2011

I have been having trouble with the install of Ubunto in general. First problem is that my realtek network drivers rtl8168 are giving me some problems. I have followed advice from other threads for disactivating the NIC and disconnecting the power for 10seconds. This works in that Ubunto can recognize the hardware (hardware active), but it says it is not in use. Furthermore, I try to define the IP address manually and it does not allow me to press apply. Therefore I cannot connect to the internet.

I though I would try a fresh install of the latest Ubuntu. I did not have the internet connected (due to drivers). After the partitioning section (I partitioned over Ubunto 9.10), on the screen where it says select Username, computer name etc. some files were loaded, and at the end it says ready when you arebut I was not able to move forward. I dont now why. Ultimately I reboot the computer Now I get this message upon booting (I am still booting from USB)

GRUB Loading

Red Hat / Fedora :: Compiling Error In Atheros AR8152 Fast Ethernet Driver

Sep 22, 2010

I tried to compile Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller driver for fedora 13 64 bit kernel version is 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64. I have installed kernel source , kernel header and necessary all things to compile it. (linux-firmware-20100806-4.fc13.noarch also installed). I tried AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13 source from Atheros web site.

But when I try to make it it give following error.
Code: Makefile:173: *** *** Aborting the build. ***

Ubuntu Networking :: Compile Error 2 - Realtek 8192

Jun 2, 2011

I'm trying to install a wireless USB adapter to a machine so I can get it internet access, unfortunately when I try to run the provided install script I'm getting an error 2, and I've never encountered that before. In fact I'm getting another error which makes me concerned that they just failed at coding this driver...

Code:

Something is clearly broken but I am not sure what, I'm awfully new to this, and wireless didn't really exist the last time I used Linux...though this doesn't appear to be specifically related to the wireless function of the driver, it's a make compile problem, it's just mysterious.

Debian :: Installing The Wifi For Atheros?

Feb 8, 2010

i used to have shaw cable that i paid for and with that a "wired" connection which no matter what linux i chose to play with would recognize and automatically install the network drivers etc... so that i could access the web. now though i use a connection via wifi in the hotel that i now reside at and when i install or use live cd versions of linux i cant get it to use my wifi. due to the fact i have an atheros card. i researched this and found that apparently i need to have mad wifi installed and configured. however i haven't been able to get it to work. i can't seem to get an accurate step by step on installing it. same when i step by step try to install linux onto a usb stick and have it bootable. furthest i've gotten is the start up splash screen and then it freezes. anywho can someone steer me towards the "easiest dumbest person using it" install madwifi and or get a copy that works for an atheros card.

Debian Installation :: Atheros AR8151 Not Working?

May 26, 2011

I installed Debian awhile ago, but then replaced the mobo. Now my system doesn't detect the onboard LAN card, installing the windows driver fixed that problem on windows but I can't seem to find the appropriate driver for Linux.

The card is an Atheros 8151.

The problem is that my install of linux (64bit) does not recognize any adapter on the system. I went and downloaded a driver, after a make, make install, and reboot it still wasn't fixed.

I can find on this recommends downloading from some partner.atheros.com which seems defunct.

Debian :: USB-adapter With The Chipset Atheros AR9271?

Mar 29, 2011

I am preparing to install Debian. I use an USB-adapter for wireless network access, the chipset of the network card in the adapter is "Atheros AR9271". Using this adapter is my only means of accessing the internet.

For some reason I had a hunch that my adapter might not be supported in Debian. I started searching around and found that quite a few people have been having some difficulties installing it to work in Debian. So, when I will have installed Debian there seems to be a significant risk I won't be able to go online.

Since I don't have any other way of connecting to the internet, thus no other network card and no parallel computer to use, I will get in trouble when I have to try to get my adapter to work with Debian. That is to say, it will be impossible to search for solutions on Google, ask for help online etc. I want to forestall such a situation. Hence a few questions:

1) What exactly will I have to do in order to be able to use the adapter with Debian?

2) Is there any way of doing it without going online after I have finished installing Debian? I'm thinking about if it would, for example, be possible to include any required files in the installation package I will use to install Debian?

Debian :: Realtek ALC662, No Stereo Mix?

Feb 3, 2010

I'd like to capture streaming audio. Installed Audacity but the mixer toolbar doesn't show a mix or stereo mix dropdown option. So, there's no capture possible. It's not a hardware issue because I do get the stereo mix option in Windows Vista (this is a dual-boot PC). I've spent hours reading about this and there's lots of folks talking, but no solution that I can find. It must have something to do with how ALSA manipulates this particular hardware. I had Fedora 10 installed and had the same problem with it. At this point, it's the only reason I have left for keeping Vista. Note: I have an ancient IBM T23 with Fedora and Audacity. Stereo mix IS an option in the mixer dropdown menu; I can record ok. I'm not going to take the patch cord route (line out to mic in etc) because then I can't hear what's being recorded. And there's got to be an impedance problem that would impair the quality. Maybe someone who's solved this will read my post and comment. No going to hold my breath.

Debian Configuration :: Realtek RTL8169 Won't Work At Gigabit?

Nov 16, 2010

I've been running my server for a few months now. I'm using the latest version of Lenny, regularly updated. The system is basic: it's a Celeron 1.2GHz-based machine with 512MB RAM. Since it runs SAMBA, I wanted it to run on Gigabit, so I bought a generic gigabit ethernet card with a Realtek RTL8169 chipset. For reference, the original ethernet adapter is an Intel 82801 (815 chipset) 10/100MBit. The card appeared in lspci when I first started up the system but eth1 wasn't up; I installed the Realtek drivers anyway (having installed all the kernel sources etc) and brought eth1 up. However, no matter what I do, it will NOT run at gigabit speeds!
It's plugged into a Belkin gigabit switch that I know will run at gigabit speeds; I've tried different ports and cables (including one that definitely allows gigabit) but nothing will allow the card to run at full speed. Eth0 is no longer set to automatic; only eth1 comes up on boot with a static IP.

Debian Hardware :: 6.0 RC1 And Realtek 8111C Network Card

Jan 22, 2011

I'm new to Debian, and new to Linux at all (well, I have used Linux sometimes in the past; Red Hat 7.1, Knoppix 3.6, Ubuntu, and some other distros but by no meaning I could call myself a real, full-time Linux user). But that's what I want to change. After some research I've decided on Debian. At first I wanted to download a stable build (5.0.7) but I've seen 6.0 RC1 was released just recently and I've changed my decision to get this version instead. Anyway, I'm currently downloading the DVD (slow connection, 2Mb/s only) and I've spotted this page in the meantime.

Thing that got my attention is "Potential installation problems with RTL8169-based network cards". I've checked my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3) and I have Realtek 8111C on it. As far as I understand, it's not RTL8169-based but any real problems with my Realtek 8111C card, I don't want to install an OS from which I couldn't browse web. I know I had big issues with it while installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard but that's what I could expect when installing OS on unsupported hardware. So any way to install Debian 6.0 RC1 on a computer with Realtek 8111C network card?

Debian Configuration :: Realtek 8192SE - Squeeze Freezes At Boot

Nov 25, 2010

I've run into an issue that I'm not sure how to address. I'm running Squeeze and upgraded my system this morning.

The packages upgraded were:

About 10 seconds after upgrading, the system froze completely and I had to do a hard restart. The system froze again 10 seconds after the bash login prompt was displayed (I'm not using a display manager) after reboot. The source of the problem appears to be my Realtek 8192SE wireless driver. I was able to boot the kernel in recovery mode and uninstall it, which has fixed the issue. Rebuilding the driver causes the problem again.

I suspect that something to do with the sysv and init packages affected the driver in this way, but I've no idea where to start in trying to fix this. I can't imagine this is a fault of the Realtek driver as it worked just fine up until this point.
