View 1 RepliesI have laptop lenovo T43 with FC11. The wireless is not getting activated (the lamp is not glowing). When I boot to windows, it is glowing. I have tried everything - used iwconfig etc to set parameters etc etc., all without any result, the wireless stubbornly remains in sleep mode. With this in off state, I can not even scan for the networks. When I try to activate it through System->Administration->Network, it says cable unplugged.
View 2 Replies View Relatedas the majority of ubuntu 10.04 users I had problems with setting up wireless internet connection too. After reading many forum topics I somehow managed to set up the connection. Now the only problem is that when I restart computer wireless connection is no longer working. Each time I boot Ubuntu I have to go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers, remove Broadcom STA wireless driver and then install it again. Otherwise the wireless connection is not working and under Broadcom STA wireless driver this message is written:

Once i rebooted however, the drivers are still installed but not activated if you get me? so the wireless card is just not read by the operating system.

I've been with Ubuntu since about 10.10 and a little before, but did a trial. I just installed 11.04 tonight, and my wireless driver is having an issue. I installed it, and reset my computer to complete the installation, but it still doesn't pick up anything wireless, just Ethernet.

Then, I tried with newer version 11.04. It detected Ethernet device. After installation over I just rebooted and I have chosen ubuntu OS, then it stuck and goes to blank screen.I am doing all my work in ubuntu only, i am struggling to recover form this problem for a long time.

I have gone thru lot of websites and forums to try to enable the wireless connections. Till now I have installed the ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb, ndiswrapper-utils- .9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb & ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb. Then I was able to install the windows driver for my wireless card. But still the status is showing as disabled for the wireless adaptor. Please help to make it working.
I have installed CentOS 5.3, and updated with yum update. I have kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5xen.
I can't get my wirelss network to work, I have AR928X wireles network adapter.
Do I need to install a newer kernel and install ath9k or can I just downlad a driver without updating the kernel?
I'm new to CetOS and Linux so I hope someone kan give me a step by step guide to what I can do!
After an update this week I noticed some strange things with the network.
1. The network connection doesn't activate itself automaticaly. Have to do it every time when booted up.
2. At the taskbar icon the previously "Auto eth0" changed to "System eth0". I guess this is kind of connected to the first issue
3. I can't connect anymore to the windows network -Times out (also worked fine before)
How to set it up to the "old" way?
Using ubuntu 10.10 (pinguy OS) i connected an ethernet cable from my girl's macbook pro to her lenovo ideapad s10-3t to transfer some DS9 episodes onto it. new enough to linux to have not been able to figure out how to access the files on the mac, so i disconnected the ethernet, and the wireless hasn't worked since. tried everything i know, and googling for a while (as well as searching again on this forum) to no avail.
Just before linking the 2 computers via ethernet, the wireless worked fine on the ideapad, always had; but not so after the ethernet connection that did nothing other than apparently kill the wireless. an "lshw -C network" command tells me i have a BCM4313 wireless card, and *-network UNCLAIMED. also, if i launch "install additional drivers", i see that the proprietary driver is not active.
How could merely plugging in an ethernet cable that happened to be conncected to a MBP running OSX.6 do that? and will that happen again? i thought linux was supposed to play real nice with other OS's, so why did a simple file transfer kill my wireless connectivity? i have no access to internet via ethernet cable, so i cannot just download the driver i need now. shouldn't it still be in the computer still? somewhere? is there a simple solution to this, or has the wireless driver been wiped out by plugging in the ethernet? is this a bug that should be reported?
I "inherited" a cluster of 2 systems with XenCluster, based on CentOS 5.5. About five weeks ago I ran the (long overdue) yum update, which crashed in the middle of updating on both nodes, so I had to reinstall all those packages by hand and had to re-enable their startup. So both systems are already in the not-ideal state.
One system rebooted itself during my absence and now won't boot anymore. It seems to boil down to clustered lvm not being activated in the initrd and therefore no VolGroup00 available, which contains the root. The other volume group has good reasons to be clustered but the root does not need to be. But I can't fix it from a rescue CD, every time the error comes up that the volume group is clustered. The exact error display at boot is at
http://people.cs.uu.nl/koos/screen-20100913140414.png
what do I do to either fix the startup to ignore VolGroup00 being clustered OR change the status of VolGroup00 to non-clustered?I notice the other system has this too so my best guess is that I'll have the same problem in a bigger way when this system reboots too. Hoping for no power failures...Relevant versions of stuff:

Anyway, when I attempt to connect to my wireless network that uses either WEP/WPA/WPA2-- I get an error message that I cannot recall (it basically only came up when I entered the key) However, I can connect to my wireless network when it is unencrypted and no open/shared key is needed.I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network when
FYI: I am using a RealTek RTL8185 Wireless Driver. Also, I use CentOS as a workstation.
I must be able to perform customized (non distribution-default) (re)installations of Linux fairly often. As such, I have been looking for a distribution which would allow me to automate the process. CentOS's usage of the Anaconda installer permitting the use of kickstart files, coupled with its stability, maturity, etc. seems to be what I have been looking for. I would like to be able to use the netinstall media in order to perform up-to-date kickstart installations (i.e. grab the 'latest' updates targeting CentOS 5, rather than installing the 5.4 versions and upgrading the system after the first boot).
The wiki seems to provide instructions on creating up-to-date media. However; this is less than ideal, because it would mean burning new media every time I need to (re)install. I realize that finding out if this is possible or not is a simple matter of grabbing the netinstall ISO, burning it and seeing if it supports a direct up-to-date install (or not). However, this is where I run into another problem. The machine in question uses a broadcom wireless card and, as such, would have to make use of it during the installation. I can get the card to work properly on an installed system via the bcm43xx kernel module + 3rd party firmware (extracted to /lib/firmware/ via bcm43xx-fwcutter).
I do not know if it is possible to modify the netinstall ISO so as to load this module (and the modules it depends on) automatically -and- somehow add the necessary files to /lib/firmware/. To summarize (in hopes of clarifying if the long version is confusing) :
1. Can the netinstall media be used to directly install an up-dated system?
2. Can the netinstall media be reworked in order to automatically load the bcm43xx module and can the firmware files be added to the /lib/firmware/ directory of the.. system booted from the media?
My wireless was working perfectly until I accidentally let the battery run flat with the machine prevented from hibernating. Upon recovery, there was no wireless available. Checking the Hardware Drivers, I can see the Broadcomm driver as "Activated but not currently in use". Following the copious advice elsewhere I have disabled the driver, rebooted the machine, enabled it again - many times. Still the same message. What is stopping me from activating it? Bit of a noob so.

I have a CentOS 5.5 server running currently with a Netgear gigabit ethernet card and for wifi I have a wi-fi card with the chipset: RT2860.Now I have gotten the ethernet card and wi-fi card working but my main question is: How do you bridge the connection between the ethernet card and the wi-fi card to create a wireless network with a hidden ESSID if possible and WPA encryption? (So the server basically acts as a wireless router as well as doing all the other stuff I need to do on it).

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter reading and trying tons of tutorials and several OS reinstalls, I'm stuck trying to load wireless on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Before you say search forums! I hurry to tell I did. No solution seems to work. WLAN chipset - Broadcom's BCM4311 / BCM 2050. 1st scenario - native CentOS 5.3 drivers Although CentOS recognize WLAN card and displays it's name correctly, neither network or NetworkManager sees any of wireless networks.
2nd scenario - Broadcom's drivers Most know Broadcom has released Linux drivers. I had some more luck with them than in 1st scenario although problems occur. After successfully compiling Kernel module, wireless networks are discovered and can be successfully connected but no pages load. It seems like DNS is not resolving at all and page loading timeouts instantly. Tested on TKIP-encrypted network.
I have recently installed CentOS 5.3 in my system. I needed some help with the wireless configuration. Actually i have configured it and it shows the wireless name but it doesnt connect to it. in solving the issue. In the /var/log/messages , the following error appears :

I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal
