CentOS 5 :: Install CentOS 5.2, And The Installation Ran Out Of Disk Space After Running For About 2 Hours?

Feb 18, 2010

I am trying to install CentOS 5.2, and the installation ran out of disk space after running for about 2 hours.I checked the FAQ, and it said 1.2 GB. The disk is 3 GB. The default install was selected, and I think that it checks for sufficient available disk space before installing. Still, it ran for quite a while before announcing that it was out of disk space. The Installation Guide is not very helpful, since there is a blank page where the disk space requirement is supposed to be. I just picked the default installation. A search of the forums on "not enough disk space" did not return much.

General :: Division Of Logical Memory Space In To User Space And Kernel Space

Logical Memory Space of 4GB is divided in to 3GB User Space and 1GB Kernel Space. Always. Correct?

1. How can we change it? (just changing value of PAGE_OFFSET is okay?)

2. If system have only 256MB of memory (embedded system) and suppose Kernel Modules eat away all the memory during boot. User space will be left will no memory. Is this case possible?

CentOS 5 :: Swap Space Shows As 8GB Even Though Set To 2GB?

Jun 17, 2009

I have a dual xeon e5420 server w/ 16GB ram running 5.3 x64 that I was trying to partition out in the following configuration:

250GB on / (root)
4.2TB on /home
50GB on /tmp
2GB on swap

The issue is that no matter what size I set the swap space to in anaconda if always shows 8GB when I "df -h". I've tried setting it to 2GB 1GB and 512MB all with the same result.

CentOS 5 :: How To Format Unused Space On /dev/sda

Dec 3, 2009

I have a CentOS 5.3 x86_64 system setup as a file server, backup server, and iSCSI target. The physical machine has six hard drives, two of which (bay0 and bay1) are 1TB disks in a RAID1 mirror. Therefore, CentOS is installed on /dev/sda. My question is this: how can I format and mount the large portion of sda that's not in use right now? Here's some more info:

Disk /dev/sda: 999.6 GB, 999653638144 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121534 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

[code]...

As you can see I've got about 1TB of space on sda. However, when I look at my df -h command and my LVM management what I find is that I've got:

root / filesystem = 8GB and is under Vol00
swap = 2GB and is under Vol01
/var = 2GB and is under Vol02

Sounds like I have a ton of space on sda that I'm not using. It also looks like I'm using LVM, but I'm not familiar with LVM nor am I really comfortable with how I can use the rest of the 900+GB I have available on sda. how I can format and mount the rest of the free space on sda?

CentOS 5 :: New Disks (RAID1), Not Enough Space?

Jan 13, 2011

I recently followed this guide to create a RAID1 [URL]First I partitioned the disks with fdiskI made the RAID array with

mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1

Then I created the filesystem with

mkfs.ext3 /dev/md0

I then mounted md0 at /Video with

mount /dev/md0 /Video/

Today I made a samba-share out of /Video/Rorschach to easily put files in there from my windows7-machine (the plan is to steam from my CentOS-server to my HTPC which hasn't arrived yet).I started to put movies in there. It went just fine for a while but then I got this message:

[URL]

How is that even possible when df -h looks like this?:

[root@Rorschach Rorschach]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
446G 70G 354G 17% /

Jun 16, 2011

I am running centos 5. So far, it gives no problem but just yesterday, when it reported "no free space" for file writing, I try to remove some file as usual. Unfortunately this time no matter how much files I had deleted, it just keep showing no available space for doing so.

Result from df:
[root@LSMSVR ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
1.2G 269M 879M 24% /
/dev/hda6 4.8G 138M 4.4G 4% /tmp
/dev/hda5 19G 2.4G 16G 14% /usr

/dev/hda1 99M 15M 80M 16% /boot

I have a CentOS V5.3 system with a single 30GB HDD having about 21 GB of free space. I added a 40 GB HDD with a single ext3 partition. After reboot, the free space still reads as 21 GB. I ran the LVM GUI, and added the volume to the LVM group 00; no change to the free space after reboot. I ran the LVM again, removed the volume from the group and created a new group for the volume; still no change after reboot. I am clearly missing a key operation.

CentOS 5 :: Increased Disk Space Not Reflected

May 11, 2011

I am running Centos 5.5 in vmware and recently had to increase my disk space from 20GB to 40GB. I understand that in linux, the increased disk space is not automatically reflected but as I am new to this topic, I am not sure how I can go about doing this. how to see what's the available space and how I can partition(?) this.

For your reference:

[root@localhost ~]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 42.9 GB, 42949672960 bytes

CentOS 5 :: Any Known Errors On Allocating Disk Space Using Rsync?

Mar 13, 2009

Need to know if there are any known errors allocating disk space using rsync. I have recently setup a small file backup server (2 500GB drives) running Centos 5.2, with a rsync daemon (via xinetd). However I have noticed that after about a week of usage, if I reboot, then the disk that rsync uses, has a lot of multiply claimed blocks and inode errors, such that I have to run fsck multiple times to fix. This has happened a couple of times now so I don't think that its random.

I need to take space from LogVol00 and move it to LogVol01. I have found documentation for increasing the swap, and the resizing the logical volumes. However in the documentation and the man pages it says that I have to reduce the size of teh file system on the logical volume I am going to shrink. I have found documentation resizing the logical volumes but not the file systems.

CentOS 5 :: Df Not Showing Disk Space After Logical Volume Expansion / Fix It?

Jun 5, 2009

I've added a new LUN to my Centos 5.2 server using Powerpath and have added it to an ext3 logical volume. I extended the logical volume using lvextend and the new space shows up correctly in lvdisplay. What I'm having problems with is getting Centos to see the new disk space (df -h shows 500GB, not 600GB as expected). I've tried running a resize2fs on the new volume but it tells me that "the filesystem is already n blocks long. Nothing to do". Does any one know where I'm going wrong? If possible I'd like to sort this without a reboot.
