CentOS 5 Hardware :: Webcam 046d:09a1 Not Supported?
Dec 26, 2010
I have a several-year-old Logitech webcam, device ID 046d:09a1, which is not currently supported by the uvcvideo driver version 0.1.0 included in my 5.5 centosplus build. The uvcvideo site points to build instructions at the linuxtv.org site, which indicates one should be able to build modules for "vanilla kernels" 2.6.16 and higher. My attempts to compile from their source resulted in various layers of of errors, and I'm way out of my depth in figuring out the changes necessary to compile successfully.
My searches haven't yet turned up any detailed info about building these modules specifically for CentOS 5.5, so I was hoping someone here may have had experience doing this, and might be able to steer me in the right direction.
Alternatively, are there any plans on the horizon to update uvcvideo to a version greater than 0.1.0 in future kernel updates?

I have an ancient Logitech Express webcam (046d:0850) that worked immediately when I installed 10.04 Lucid Lynx, except for a frame rate issue. GUVCVideo has the frame rate at between 1-3 fps. I'd like to see it at between 25-30. The video options within guvcvideo DO NOT allow me to adjust the frame rate, resolution, or auto-exposure. Cheese works, skype works, and camorama doesn't. All functioning programs have the fps issue.
In searching around, all I've found is some wild goose chases promising pots of gold that some leprechaun must have stuffed up his keister because they don't work for me.

I downloaded the binaries, and changed file permission to execute. When I double click on it, it asks me if I want to run it in a terminal, it starts out by giving me a message about looking for a component, and then the terminal closes, and nothing else happens. Is Netbeans not supported under CentOS 5.3?

Background info: Trying to get the i82975x module (drivers/edac/i82975x normally) on CentOS 5.4I'm using the latest stock kernel. I was trying to get edac monitoring working when I noticed that I couldn't find the i82975x module. I downloaded the full kernel source and it's not an option to enable. I realize it's a older kernel, but I noticed i5400 edac support was there, which is a newer chipset.

While searching for the maximum numbers of CPUs supported by CentOS 5 x86_64 I found the following page: [URL]. The question I have regarding the specified information ("64/255" logical CPUs) is, which number means what. Does this mean 64 real CPUs with a maximum of 255 cores/hyperthreaded CPUs or something similar or totally different?

My recent CENT OS install went very well. However the only thing missing is wireless support for my modest FR-300USB Wireless adapter. Since I do not have the expertise to create a driver I need to know where I can find what wireless adapters are supported.

i am looking to buy a new sata controller to add more disk space (ever not enougth) to my home server. My os is a CentOS 5.2 X86_64 with the xen kernel. I want a controller supported by the kernell, plug and store.I found two boards looking interesting with a cheap price:- Dawicontrol DC-4320 with a SiliconImage Sil3124-2.- Promise FastTrak TX2300.The DC-4320 is better because has 4 sata ports Vs 2 ports for the TX2300, but this is not a big problem for me because i only can add two more disk on my box.I, am planing to buy a 1,5 Tb seagate disk (ST31500341AS), dont know if it may be a problem with the size.

I have an issue with the DHCP clients in a lab environment I am building. The lab is in a dns subdomain but the clients should be able to resolve any machine in the lab subdomain or the parent by using just the hostname. According to everything I have read, the client resolver should do this automagically, trying first the naked hostname, then the FQDN, then walking up the tree of parent domains. But it doesn't.
So I thought I'd just have the dhcp server set the domain search list to include both the local and parent domain. But adding "option domain-search" to dhcpd.conf causes dhcpd to fail on start up. Does the current version of dhcpd in CentOS 5.3 really not support this option?

I am now installing the CentOS5.4 with a DVD on a Windows machine. The video card is ATI Radeon HD 3450, and monitor is Dell 1909W. During the install, after recognizing the ATI card, and starting the xserver, the screen came up with a message saying: " The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 1440X900@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specification. "
However, in Windows XP the monitor is configured as 1440X900@60Hz, which works well. Due to this problem, the GUI installation cannot proceed. And how can I fix this problem if I manage to install in the text mode.

Looking at getting a new laptop for some of the guys in my office, but trying to figure out if any of these wireless cards will be supported by the kernel, hoping not to do any serious kernel hacking to get them working. The cards are
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 802.11a/b/g/n
- Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 802.11a/b/g/n
- Dell Wireless 1501 802.11b/g/n
- Dell Wireless 1530 802.11a/g/n
If any one has experience with those cards being supported let me know, or if you know where i can find the drivers for them that'd rock too.

I want to set up Motion on my CentOS 5.5-server because I thought it would be awesome to have.
But my machine wont accept my webcam for some reason. I tried it on Ubuntu server in VMware and it worked flawlessly (but I dont like Ubuntu).
Could it be the driver? I downloaded some package called kmod-v4l-somthing from EL-Repo without success.
The webcam is a Creative Live! Cam Socialize HD (should work with kernel 2.6 or higher)
Kernel-version: 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 (newest)
When I type "motion" I get this code...

I have a desktop that has a d-link DWL-520 wireless card, which was working under Windoze. Today I installed Centos 5.4 on the system , which went cleanly. I then used Network Configuration to set up the wireless card. I specified to use DHCP, set the SSID and authentication password. When I tried to activate the card I get these error messages
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A): SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument. Determining IP information for wlan0.
The hardware manager seems to have correctly identified the card and chipset, (Intersil Prism 2.5) and installed driver hostap_pci which came with the distro. This web site seems to suggest that this is the correct driver: [URL] searching forums I've found a few references to these errors, but they were from several years ago, and for different distros and cards. I did find a reference to using Network Manager to configure the card instead of Network Configuration. I started the NM service and configured a connection using it instead, but still no luck.
